Chairman’s report 2006/7 presented to the Annual General Meeting 7th June 2007This year we said goodbye to our Secretary, Margaret Alder who has represented the Traprain area for a good number of years. In her place we welcomed her husband Bill Alder who has a particular interest in Traprain Law and the JMCP. We also said goodbye to Councillor Broun-Lindsay who has worked hard for us for ten years.
This year we have concentrated on finishing some long-running projects and looked at issues raised by our last residents’ survey.
·Work on our paths network continued with a new revised leaflet being produced and planning permission obtained for repair of the riverside path at Stories Park. The John Muir Way is now complete and we can take credit for both planning and funding most of the Core Paths network in this area. We also asked for a new path across East Linton park which has resulted in a fine cycle path and safe route to school. ·Our East Linton brochure has been redesigned and distributed. ●The ‘heritage’ streetlights have been finished with the help of a Leader+ grant. ·We again supported the Horticultural Society in entering the Scotland in Bloom competition. · We funded a new bench and bin at Tyninghame and a new noticeboard at Whittingehame. · We assisted the History Society by obtaining planning permission for their smart new interpretation boards. ·Flooding problems at Markle have been fixed.
Unresolved issues this year include:
·East Linton’s public toilets are still being vandalised. ●Path maintenance continues to be a problem ●The Fountain has not been repaired or painted as promised and the lights are still out on Jessie. ●A big increase in motor-cycle racing at East Fortune is affecting Markle residents ●The proposed golf/hotel development at Whitekirk is still a concern to residents. ●Speeding continues to be a problem in Tyninghame
Over the year members responded to requests from residents on all kinds of issues and either arranged to have the matter resolved or told the person who to contact. We were represented as usual at a number of consultations and meetings this year including RAGES, Lafarge, John Muir CP and Traprain Law Advisory Group.
We have produced two editions of Dunpender News and included a short report each month in the East Linton Advertiser, for which we thank the Editor.
Thanks go once again to Mr McLean who looks after our website, www.dunpender.net and Mrs Macdougall who takes the minutes for our meetings.
