Minutes of meeting held on 1st May 2003

in the Council Chambers, East Linton

2.0              The Minute of the previous meeting held on 3rd April 2003 was agreed to be a correct record.

 

3.0              POLICE REPORT

There was no police report due to absence of officers.

 

4.0              MATTERS ARISING

 

4.1       Vacancy

Notices have been put up in Tyninghame and Whitekirk to advertise the vacancies. (see 5.9) Mrs Priest reported that she had received a letter from  Ms Jan Boyd expressing an interest in joining the Council. Mr Robson to write and invite Ms Boyd to the next meeting.

 

4.2       Bonfire/ Fireworks Display

Ms Stephen reported from communications with the Gala Committee that the main problem is that the insurance situation has changed, leaving them personally responsible for the fireworks evening. It was agreed to investigate the possibility of  DCC arranging the insurance and then appointing the Gala Committee to execute bonfire night.

 

4.3              Dunpender News

Mrs Priest will amass all articles for Dunpender News and send them to Ms Stephen in one file. All contributions will be gratefully received and should be in Microsoft word and 100-150 words long. The various competitions have not been very successful. It was decided to include a crossword instead, which Mrs Priest will compile. Mr Robson will produce some pictures of the new bridge for the next issue and Mrs Shaw-Stewart will write an article about the Alison Cargill house upgrade inWhittingehame.

 

4.4                   Paths for Health

Mrs Ferguson will meet Helen Bruce regarding DCC giving a donation to Paths for Health

4.5                    Drug Awareness Training

Mr Robson wrote to say that DCC was very interested in Drug Awareness Training and has been given some possible dates. It was agreed that Tuesday 14th October was a suitable date. The Training will be held in the Council Chambers and made available to youth leaders, Guiders, librarians and publicans.

5.0       CORRESPONDENCE

1.      Network Rail: reply to request to remove litter from line behind Memorial Park.

2.      East Lothian Cardiac Rehab Group: thank you for cheque.

3.      MELD: thank you for cheque.

4.      Changes: April newsletter.

5.      ELC:  workshops on access to info on Council services.

6.      FoE: What on Earth Spring 2003.

6.0        TREASURER’S REPORT

There was no Treasurer’s report as Ms Cosgrove was absent.

 

7.0          LOCAL PRIORITIES

7.1  (see 5.10) In response to a request for funding from East Linton Community Area Network, it was decided to give £500.

7.2  The Pensioners’ Club is £100 short for their summer trip. It was decided to give them the £100.

 

8.0       A1 EXPRESSWAY SUB-GROUP

 

8.1 Mrs Priest reported that School Road has been resurfaced.

8.2 Ms Stephen reported that Blackdog Web Design have made a very good job of the East Linton tourist website, www.eastlinton.org

 

 

 

9.0       TOWN MAINTENANCE/ SCOTLAND IN BLOOM

 

9.1 Mrs Priest informed the Council that the Horticultural Society is looking for people to help with planting.

9.2 Mr Stewart gave the Council feedback from various groups outlining ideas for the park. The toddler park is still awaiting a climbing frame. Mr Stewart to chase this up.

 

10.0     PLANNING MATTERS

 

10.1 Ms Stephen had no progress to report regarding Mr Laing’s planning application for a house at the Tyne Bridge.

10.2 The Council was informed that Tyninghame Estate is up for sale. Mrs Priest will write to Maree Johnston to say that DCC has noted this and hopes that everything possible is being done to maintain access.

 

11.0   YOUTH MATTERS

A successful disco was held last week. The next will be May 24th. The Summer Trip has been booked for the 3rd Saturday in August. The youth group is pleased to note that ELC will be running an after school boxercise class in the Community Hall.

 

12.0    OTHER COMPETENT BUSINESS

 

None to report.
