Dunpender Community Council report for March 2008

DCC met on 6th March with the usual packed agenda!

Problems with the footpath to Hailes Castle have been reported and this is ‘on the list’ at the Council for repair. We agreed to order a sign for the path to Markle to be placed at the junction of Dunpender Road and Drylawhill.  Your suggested spots for benches include Knowes Ford and beside the road to Hailes Castle so we’ll work on that but more ideas will be welcome.

No more Fast Linto! Smart new signs have finally appeared at the four main entrances to East Linton; we hope you like them. We decided to feature the East Linton ‘logo’ which was designed by the artist Robert Noble who lived in East Linton in the early 1900’s – you can see some of his paintings hanging in East Linton Library. The signs will also feature a banner reading ‘Beautiful Scotland Award Winners’.

A new outside light to match the streetlights has been installed on the front of the Community Hall – this is on the Hall circuit so will only be lit when the Hall is in use. A fingerpost has been put up outside East Linton Co-op to direct visitors around the village and get rid of the motley collection of signs stuck on walls and lampposts.

Potholes in roads are the main problem reported from outlying areas such as Markle and Whittingehame. New numbers to report road repairs and lights out of action have now been set up by East Lothian Council: 01875 824305 for potholes and 01875 824310 for lights.

Buses: Lots of people have complained about the coaches being used on the X6 route – steep stairs impossible for buggies and those who are not so nimble any more. Cllr McLennan has spoken to First Bus but they do not intend to do anything about it – presumably short of buses now that they run three X8’s an hour from Haddington.

We are working on a new website www.eastlinton.uk.com which will combine community and business information with sections for visitors. Community Hall information will be here too. We’d like to include more from outlying villages and information on groups and events so please contact us with details and if you have a service or business you want people to know about – tell us!

DCC meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 7.30pm on the first Thursday of each month and minutes are available in the Library or on our website.
