March 2008

At the 7th February meeting various issues were discussed. Dog fouling is still a major problem and the dog warden will be visiting  the area with our Community policeman; please be a responsible dog owner and prevent fouling.  Also, there are plenty of litter bins, so please use them;  they are emptied regularly. DCC is trying to get some proper lighting on the rail footbridge by the surgery, and also to get the steps cleaned of moss. Painting the rail bridge by the chemist’s is a major DCC wish, and Network Rail is being reminded about it from several directions.  Floodlights for the park have been ordered, which will enable the football club to practice here rather than Haddington.

Parts of the path at Stories Park have disappeared into the river after heavy rain, and the new path to be made in the next month will be higher up the bank. It is intended to wind between the trees, to avoid felling.  Potholes in and around East Linton have increased over the winter as always, and can be reported to Transportation on 01620 827 711 for attention. It was agreed that the ‘Jetpatcher’ road repairs are little more than temporary.  Local priorities money has been spent on such things as a grant towards a garden in the school playground, the East Linton walks leaflet, new Christmas lights, a new heritage light on the island by the Drover’s, a grant towards re-surfacing the church car park, materials and bulbs for the Horticultural Society who plant up tubs etc., and the Mill Wynd flowerbed which is to be smartened up in February. Further suggestions for use of local priorities money are always welcome.

East Lothian Council is organising the 2008 Walking Festival, from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 April but no details are available as yet.  Walkers are still in evidence through the winter  using the John Muir Way, however the toilets in the park are at present closed which is an inconvenience for them; this is being investigated. If you have suggestions as to where benches could usefully be placed along our footpaths, please contact DCC.

Cllr. McLennan has met with a First Bus representative to discuss the timetable changes and use of coaches on the X6/X8, and hopes to meet regularly with them in future.

A reminder that the monthly Antique Fairs will start again in the Community Hall on 24th February. Table rental and door money all goes to Hall funds and anyone can rent a stall. If you are spring-cleaning and want to clear out some bric a brac, phone 860592 to book your table.

DCC meetings are held in the Council Chambers at 7.30 pm on the first Thursday of each month.  Minutes are available in the Library or on the DCC website.

Finally DCC is very grateful to ELDA for the opportunity they provide to communicate monthly with residents in the area.
