East Linton Community Hall and Community Association

East Linton Community Hall is situated in the heart of the Dunpender Community and has been a vital asset for the people of our area and further a field for many years. Originally this hall was built as a drill hall for the local  military and was used as such from before WW1 right up to and after WW2. A few years after WW2 the Hall was passed to the community for local use. Since then a Committee was set up to deal with the running of the hall including letting costs and repairs., the committee still exists today and do their work on a purely voluntary basis ensuring that the hall letting prices are kept at a minimum cost whilst creating sufficient funds  for the general running and upkeep of the hall and its maintenance.

The Hall was renovated in the year 2000, this was extensive work and created a Hall which now has three rooms for let, there is one large room which can accommodate around 150 people and is used for everything from dances, weddings, sporting events and art exhibitions, for group use such as Guides and Scouts. There are also two smaller halls situated within the building, one at the rear for smaller group use and one upstairs which is often used at a board room for meetings or for even smaller groups such as cross stitch. A new kitchen was also built which has good facilities for catering, also new toilets were created as well as one for disabled use. A Bar is situated separately at the front connecting to the large hall, this is often used for events where a bar is needed and has been used extensively.

|It is often misconceived that the Hall is council or privately owned, this is not the case, it is in fact owned by the community, therefore this means that the hall belongs to everyone in the community and they (this means you) have the responsibility for making sure that the Hall is used and maintained. The Hall Community Association do a purely voluntary job of ensuring that sufficient funds are met each year to meet the maintenance and running costs, however from time to time the Committee need to organize fundraisers  to enable the lowest letting prices possible, this ensures that the hall is affordable to all groups and individuals who want to hire the hall.

Please support your local hall by attending any fundraising events as this will ensure that the hall will remain as a community hall in the future. Also, if you are a tradesman or good at DIY then we would like to hear from you. Often we have small jobs which need attention, this would be a great saving on hall costs if these repairs could be done on a voluntary basis.
