East Linton & District Community Association

Minutes of committee meeting  held on 31 May 2007

The minutes were taken by the chairman.

Present: J Priest, S McKimmie, N McKinley, D McLean, M Strachan, J LaRoche, D Clark and I Johnstone.

1. Apologies for absence:  Colin Stewart, Sylvia Strachan, Jim Forson, Kay Henderson.

2. Minutes of previous meeting on 22 Feb 2007 were accepted as a correct record

3.    Matters arising:

3.1Fabric:

i) Floor  varnishing  will be done by J. Sandies in the first week of July. NM and MS offered to deal with the yellow lines for the badminton court.

ii) Door closer has been replaced by DM but is still closing very hard. It was decided that it should be tried out on the inside lobby door. Action: DM

iii) Roof quotes: a number of contractors have been contacted. The options for solar panels or tiles were further discussed and the possibility of grants. More research is needed and also ELC Planning to be contacted to find out what is permissible.

iv) Neon lights in the small hall: bracket has broken and a temporary repair done. Need further investigation. Action NM to discuss with D Warren the electrician.

v) Curtain on front RH window in main hall has come off the rail. Action: MS

3.2 PA System has been installed and MS was thanked for his work in fitting a lockable cupboard to take the equipment. A plaque has still to be obtained. Action: JP

3.3 Quotes had been obtained for a new central heating boiler to replace the existing one which requires repair on average once every two months and which is not very fuel- efficient. We agreed to instruct GR Plumbing of Dunbar to fit a new condensing boiler at a cost of about £1800.

3.4 The idea of a noticeboard on the front wall was discussed [not for the first time]. It was felt that it would need to be glazed or notices would be removed. The issue of a key was discussed. Options/designs to be brought to the next meeting. Action: JP

4. Finance/Lets:

4.1 There was a discussion on the last Linton Live event which led to the smoke alarm going off, the Fire Brigade attending and a great deal of cleaning–up afterwards. It is turning into a disco and as the Youth Club discos have now been stopped at the request of the Police [not enough manpower] it seems unfair that these new events should ‘take over’. NM informed the meeting that the young people’s music group [formerly Music Space, now Phantassie Group] are applying for grants to expand their activities and to hold more events. We agreed that we need to discuss the running of the gigs with the organizer, Adrian Girling, before any more are booked. Chair reminded the meeting that he was told when the first gig was booked that future bookings would depend on how that one went. NM to speak to Mr Girling and report back.

4.2 Investigation into alternative fuel providers has shown that there is no real difference in price on non-domestic tariffs so we agreed to stay as we are.

5. 200 Club:

Has 3 new members. JP to give it a mention in the next DCC article in the East Linton Advertiser.

6. Office-bearers and Trustees:

Sue Holder has resigned from the committee and was thanked for her work as minute secretary.

Two new trustees are required as the headmaster Richard Wilson has left the Primary School and Cllr Broun-Lindsay is no longer our councillor.  JP to write to each of them and then to ask two of: Howard Haslett, Kenneth Gray, Tom Middlemas and Patricia Stephen to join Hilary Cochran as our Trustees.

7.Antique fairs:

Volunteers to man the door were: June, Sharon McKimmie am and Dorothy Clark pm and September, Jim LaRoche am and Martin Strachan pm.

8. Art Exhibition:  9th Sept.2007

9. Correspondence:

The Public Entertainment Licence has been applied for and Environmental Health have made their visit, all in order apart from the First Aid box needing to be replenished.

10. Any other business: CS and DM are keen to produce another Newsletter and this was agreed.

11. Dates of next meetings: 30 Aug, Oct 25th [AGM], Nov 29th 2007.
